I love people, expecially babies, that is one of the things that drew me towards Midwifery. After the birth of my first child in 1972 I started volunteering at a prenatal clinic in Eugene, Oregon.
In the fall of 1978 I met Mabel Dzata, an English-trained midwife from Ghana, West Africa. During the next 2 years. I apprenticed under her supervision and “labor sat” for a doctor who did home birth in the local area. I continue to keep updated with new information, attend peer review regularly and am licensed with the State of Oregon, making it possible to bill most insurance.
Since my first “solo” birth in November 1979, I have assisted in the delivery of hundreds of babies and effectively dealt with unforeseen complications that sometimes arise during labor and/or delivery. My transport rate is 3% with a C-section rate of 2.5%--well below the average which has hit 40% in our area.
My concern for mother, baby and family goes well beyond my professional responsibility: the most precious outcome of my birthing service is the many lasting friendships that I form.
At Your Service,
Carol
